Name: The Little Sit (ASL Provided)
Date: October 3, 2026
Time: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM EDT
Event Description:

Experience the wonder of fall migration in Cape May, one of the nation’s best birding destinations. Songbirds, shorebirds, waterfowl and especially raptors fill the skies as they funnel south to their wintering grounds, gathering in Cape May before crossing the Delaware Bay. See the spectacle for yourself at The Little Sit, held at The Nature Conservancy’s South Cape May Meadows Preserve.

Hosted by naturalists from The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and Cape May Bird Observatory (CMBO), The Little Sit is an accessible take on the annual international birding event, The Big Sit. With a relaxed pace and an emphasis on learning, this event is designed to make birding welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

During this fun and educational challenge, we’ll see how many bird species we can identify from the preserve’s Boardwalk Trail observation area. Directional signs will guide attendees to the meeting location, and TNC and CMBO naturalists will be available to help identify birds and answer questions about the preserve.

Benches, binoculars, spotting scopes and bird identification materials will be provided. This free event is open to the public, and birders of all experience levels are encouraged to participate and help add to our morning species total.

An ASL interpreter will be provided.

Location:

South Cape May Meadows Preserve on the Boardwalk Trail's observation platform. Signage throughout the preserve will guide visitors to the event location.
